2007 05 25 Rawlins, Wyoming Frontier Prison

Again no explanation needed for the first shot here. I thought having some light in the room could be interesting.

This is the west side of the prison, up against the exterior wall. Ahead and to the right is the work yard, where there was a shirt and broom factory. Those were both torn down when the prison closed, but it was so much work that it was stopped, and the rest of the prison was allowed to stand.

The gym, above C Block. This was built in the 60s, so it was in use for only a couple of decades. The wood floor was destroyed by water leaks.

This is from a guard station midway up the cell block in "A".

This is B Block and C Block. You can see that C is only one level - the gym is above.

The next two are in the "work yard". The shirt and broom factory were on this concrete pad.

This water tower is about the tallest thing in Rawlins. It can be seen from a distance.

This is the prison cemetery. Inmates that died in prison and weren't claimed are buried here as are prisoners that were executed.

This is the prison from a nice hike up onto a low cliff behind the prison. It doesn't really convey how isolated this location is. If you managed to escape somehow you would still be in remotest Wyoming.

On to cheerier subjects. I shot a lot of film in the WFP, but it was almost all in the cell blocks, which are full of interesting light and shadow, and are all in the same state of arrested decay.
