2004 12 30 Second Cut, Headwall StartsToday the concrete cutters did more cutting, and a second subcontractor arrived to begin building the headwall at the tail end of the new 60" pipe. Quite a bit of setup is required for each cut .. Banging together the forms for the headwall foundation. These guys were fast. It was interesting to see that there are VDOT standards for dozens of concrete structures like this, and our engineer picked the one that was best suited to this job. The workers get all the detailed dimensions and specifications from the VDOT book and away they go. They probably have form sets already made up for the more common structures. Blop. Splat. Glurk. Shplork Second cut in progress.. Today (12.31) the headwall makers were supposed to build forms for the upper part of the headwall and get it poured, but apparently all the concrete suppliers are already at their New Year's parties. It won't delay the end of the project to put this off until Monday.
